Gérard Grunberg is senior researcher in
political science and adviser of the President of Sciences Po. He has been
until 1997 Deputy Director and Vice Provost for Research at Sciences
Po. Mr. Grunberg will address the evolution of the French political
landscape since President Sarkozy was elected in May. Is the Fifth Republic
becoming de facto a presidential regime? What are the implications
of Sarkozy's openness policy ("ouverture à gauche") and how
far will it go? Does the Socialist Party have a future in a France that
chose to elect Sarkozy? And, does the Front National still represent a
real threat? Mr. Grunberg will offer his insights into the political, social
and cultural trends underlying Sarkozy's first months at the Elysée Palace,
before opening the floor to questions.
